Heidi Klum is back, and she is not playing safe. The 52-year-old supermodel and longtime “Project Runway” host recently put contestants on the spot with one of the season’s boldest assignments yet: the Caffeine Couture Challenge. The task?
Design a runway-ready look inspired by coffee for Klum to wear on “Good Morning America”. It had to scream fashion, morning energy, and Heidi-worthy drama, all in one.
The challenge featured three designers: Ethan Mundt, Belania Daley, and Jesus Estrada. Each had to channel their inner barista-meets-fashion-visionary and deliver something unforgettable.
Heidi Klum Sets the Bar With a GMA-Ready Mission
When Heidi Klum announced the challenge, she didn’t sugarcoat it. The winner’s outfit wouldn’t just sit on a rack. It would appear live on “GMA,” worn by the supermodel herself. That is a career-defining moment and a test of real-world pressure. No one wanted to serve weak brew.
Each designer had to draw from a specific caffeinated drink and turn it into a full fashion statement. Think less “grab and go” and more “sip and stare.” From foam-inspired fabrics to latte-colored palettes, the runway turned into a caffeinated wonderland.
Ethan Mundt Channels a Chic Cappuccino
Ethan Mundt, already known from “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” took the cappuccino route. Instead of going flashy, he leaned into structure. His look featured a smart tweed fabric with clean tailoring, giving serious “boss energy” while still playing off the warm tones of a morning cup.
Klum / IG / The challenge, called the ‘Caffeine Couture Challenge,’ required designers Ethan Mundt, Belania Daley, and Jesus Estrada to craft outfits inspired by caffeinated beverages.
The judges loved it. They praised the craftsmanship and called it “gorgeous” and “perfection.” For a challenge meant to echo caffeine’s kick, Ethan’s outfit delivered power and polish. Heidi Klum seemed impressed, though Ethan didn’t take the top prize.
Belania Daley Wins With a Matcha Moment
Inspired by a matcha latte, Belania Daley blended a sheer top with a corset and finished it off with flowing ombré pants. The colors moved like steam rising from a cup, and the whole outfit felt light, modern, and fresh.
The judges were all in. They loved the look’s movement and its clear connection to the drink. Belania nailed the theme without being too literal. It was fashion, not costume. Heidi Klum clearly saw the vision, too, because Belania took the win, and with it, a $2,000 gift card and the chance to redesign the look for “GMA.”
Jesus Estrada Delivers a Mocha-Inspired Stunner
Jesus Estrada didn't hold back either. His look took cues from a mocha and leaned into a rich, earthy vibe. He paired a floral top with high-waisted pants, creating a silhouette that felt bold but wearable. The top added softness, and the pants brought the edge.
All the judges admired the balance. It was thoughtful, it had flair, and it held its own next to the others. While Jesus didn’t win, he cemented his place as a contender who knows how to tell a story through fabric.
Klum / IG / After the challenge aired, fans got a chance to weigh in. Viewers are now invited to vote for their favorite design ahead of Klum’s “GMA” appearance on August 6.
Heidi Klum is no stranger to giving fans what they want. Letting the audience help pick what she wears on national TV? Smart move. It turned the runway into an event that stretched beyond the show.
This caffeine-themed episode aired as part of “Project Runway’s” Season 21. It is a big one. The season marks Heidi Klum’s return to the franchise after a long break. And she came back swinging. With her are original judge Nina Garcia, fashion disruptor Law Roach, and mentor Christian Siriano, guiding the designers from the workroom to the runway.
The season premieres on July 31, 2025, airing on Freeform and streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
